7th British International Mini Print Exhibition Opens at London Print Studio in March, Tours UK Galleries in 2009-2010
The 7th British International Mini Print Exhibition – about 200 small prints selected by open competition from over 1000 international entries, accompanied by a dozen larger invited prints from distinguished artists - will open at the London Print Studio between 27th March and 9th April. After two very successful exhibitions managed by Gracefields Arts Centre in Dumfries, the organisation of this biennial exhibition has been transferred to the Printmakers Council, the long running national organisation of UK printmakers. The Printmakers Council’s aim has been throughout to make this selection of contemporary fine art printmaking an exhibition of the highest quality.
A call for entries was made in spring, 2008, and entries from over 400 artists from 39 countries were received. The selectors, Stephen Mumberson, Reader in Fine Art Printmaking at Middlesex University, Monica Petzal, the Director of Printroom, London, and Finlay Taylor, MA Printmaking Subject Leader at Camberwell College of Arts, met in November 2008 and selected 200 prints for the show. The prints in this show are on an unusually small scale: the print area had to be less than 70 sq. cm. Making easily readable prints on this scale, which also have a strong presence, is challenging, and printmakers throughout the world responded to the challenge.
Several prizes will be awarded: Printmakers Council’s Chairman’s Award of £500 donated by Sheila Sloss, a residency at the London Print Studio, an editorial feature in Printmaking Today, and materials prizes by Intaglio Printmakers, Saint Cuthberts Mill , and T.N. Lawrence and Sons.
A number of distinguished artists have agreed to show invited prints in the exhibition,
including Christopher Le Brun RA, Dale Devereux Barker, John Duffin, David Lintine, Leonard McComb RA, Chris Orr RA, Barbara Rae RA, Rebecca Salter, Nana Shiomi, and Sandy Sykes. After opening at London Print Studio, the exhibition will begin touring galleries throughout the UK in early 2009. Galleries taking the show in 2009 include: the Ropewalk Gallery, Barton on Humber, (24th April to 24th May 2009), Melton Library Art Gallery (13th June to 25th July 2009), Aberystwyth Arts Centre (8th August to 26th September), Grampian Hospitals Arts Trust (9th October to 6th November 2009), and Gracefield Arts Centre (13th November to 24th December). The Printmakers Council invite bookings from galleries for the exhibition during 2010.
